Our “Widow’s Mite” Fund provides Humanitarian aid to those individuals and families in the Christian Community who for reasons of disability, advancing years, lack of employment etc. are experiencing great difficulty in meeting even the basic needs for living.
In some instances it provides a monthly “credit” at a local food store to enable a family to buy basic food requirements or will make small grants at particular times of the year to assist a particular need or provide that little extra at Christmas or Easter.
From very limited initial resources 17 disbursements have been made to sixteen individuals / widows and one family. A commitment has also been made to cover a small "salary" for 12 months to the mother of a family in great need.
Contributions of any size are welcomed to the “Widows Mite” fund, instigated by Archbishop Vincent Nichols after he was presented with a mounted "Widow's Mite" coin, the smallest valued coin in historical traditional local currency, whilst on the 2007 Birmingham Diocesan Pilgrimage.
Contributions may be made directly to the Friends at our postal address or through the facility shown later under the heading DONATIONS, using the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) web-site.
