Special Appeal to Support Iraqi Christian Refugees

Special Appeal to Support Iraqi Christian Refugees

We recently shared our hope to support an additional 128 Iraqi Christian refugees in Jordan, including 51 children, currently residing in Ashrafieh Anglican parish in Amman. In January, whilst visiting Amman, FHL’s Peter Rand spoke with 30 of these refugees when he met with Fr. George Kopti, the Vicar of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. Peter reports,

"It was a very moving experience to spend an hour listening to the stories of Iraqi Christian refugees, who had been in the parish for between 4 months and 4 years. Many had fled Iraq with just the clothes on their back. None felt able to return as their houses had been destroyed. The family, already facing financial difficulties supporting a grown up son with health issues, have a very small income and were unable to afford the changes required to improve their situation. click image to read

Pilgrims Share Joyful Day at St Martha's House

Pilgrims Share Joyful Day at St Martha's House

FHL were delighted to hear of two Diocesan Pilgrimages visiting St Martha’s House in Beit Sahour recently. We have been proud to support this day care centre for elderly Christian women in Bethlehem since our foundation in 2009. Open four days a week the house provides support to poor and vulnerable elderly Christian women in Bethlehem, many of whom are widows, living alone and with no one to look after them. St Martha’s House, staffed by Christians, creates a social environment where the women meet for companionship, simple meals and mutual support. Without this facility, many of these elderly women would live a lonely and isolated existence. Women attending the centre enjoy preparing and eating a midday meal together, tending the garden (which provides vegetables for the House), embroidery, board games, and singing and dancing together.... click image to read more.
