FHL covers the cost of treatment and medicines for the poorest Christian families who do not have enough to pay for treatment. We do this through our partnership with St Luke’s, Nablus, a non-profit charitable organization and hospital run by the Diocese of Jerusalem. It is a general medical and surgical hospital that focuses on intensive care, neonatal, and emergencies. The hospital provides quality health care and job opportunities for residents of Nablus and the surrounding villages, regardless of gender, colour or social status or ability to pay, with particular attention to the most vulnerable. They will treat anyone who needs treatment.

The FHL Exemption Fund will allow 50 people to receive much needed medical care. And indirectly ensure the ongoing costs of employment for the medical professionals.

We will also enable this through our support of the Penman outpatient clinic founded in 2013 to treat chronic illness, particularly Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease. Open to all regardless of faith, the clinic offers screening, counselling, and treatment for diabetic or pre-diabetic patients, as well as educational programs that promote cardiovascular health. The clinic’s services are available to anyone who cannot otherwise receive treatment elsewhere, with a sliding-scale fee being used to allow those in need to have access to high-quality care.

The Palestinian Authority offers a very basic health insurance scheme with a low premium of £140 per year. The insurance only covers specific conditions such as cancer and heart attacks and hospital treatment for these conditions, not ongoing treatment or medication. A hospital stay for an operation would cost thousands of pounds and is therefore extremely valuable to every Palestinian. If the local hospital cannot give treatment, the patient is covered for treatment in Jerusalem in a more specialist hospital/clinic. FHL is providing medical insurance to vulnerable Christians.

Riyad

"I felt my health collapse, and with it, I was overcome with a sense of hopelessness, despair, and fear. It reached a point where I suffered from strokes, and I truly believe that if it weren’t for the grace of God, my faith, and the prayers of my family, I would have died. The support from FHL gave me a feeling of safety, which is something you cannot put a price on. It has given us the stability to face our health challenges without fear."

FHL will allocate £285,000 in funding towards supporting the most vulnerable with medical care. More if we receive additional funding.
