Returning pilgrims Now that you have seen for yourself, how can you help? Pray – prayer underpins all that we do. We have a dedicated prayer space on our website with prayers and reflections updated throughout the liturgical year. As a first step, sign up to our Prayer Bank to receive the regular updates of prayers, reflections and other spiritual resources and ask your parish priest or minister to add prayers once a month for the Christians in the Holy Land. In this way you may inspire others to establish a regular prayer group. Act to raise awareness – Understanding our work gives focus to your prayer. One of the simplest yet most effective actions you can take is to ensure that your parish and the local Christian community is kept up to date with our news, share it among your friends, family and fellow Christians. So, it is essential that you register to receive our news and be our voice among your friends, family and community. Then consider becoming a volunteer advocate or supporting our mission in other roles as a volunteer. Take a look at our volunteer roles here for more information. Encourage Visits – You've recently returned from the Holy Land and like all pilgrims we speak to, we expect it has been a life-changing experience for you. Why would you not want your friends and family to have the same experience? Now share the fruits of your experience to encourage others, young or old, to visit soon - whether friends, family, parish or diocese. Reassure them against the concerns they may feel from coverage in the media. After the stress of recent years everyone owes themselves time for spiritual reflection and peace in the Land where Jesus walked and at the same time, with so many Christians in the Holy Land dependent for their livelihood on tourism, life for the majority will not have any hope until the pilgrims return in numbers. Why not talk to your parish priest/vicar about taking a parish pilgrimage or join others to persuade your Bishop into organising a diocesan pilgrimage? They may be surprised how cost effective it can be! Our Pilgrimage page gives some more information and some accounts of people who have been on pilgrimage. Have a read and encourage anyone you know who might be considering joining a pilgrimage to have a read. After all, nothing beats the experience of being there, walking in the footsteps of Jesus and meeting the Living Stones of our faith. Give - There are many ways you can support our work in the Holy Land financially without donating directly. We understand you have to recover from your visit! Anything you do helps. When shopping online, sign up and use Easyfundraising or The Giving Machine, both of which will give us money for free when you link through them to purchase something online. It's really simple, you just need to register with them and your computer will tell you if you can activate a donation from the online retailer when you're shopping. Both of them have thousands of retailers in the scheme and it won't cost you a penny - apart from the item you are buying of course! Our Fundraise through online shopping page will give you more details. Take a chance with our online lottery. Sign up for just £1 a week and encourage your friends to do the same. Not only simple and low cost but you might just win a prize too! Then there are simple fundraising ideas for you as an individual – a sponsored walk, grow a moustache, quit something or as part of a group, maybe your fellow pilgrims or your parish. Hold a summer barbeque, run a parish quiz, a plant sale or an afternoon tea. Our Fundraising page will give you some more ideas. Manage Cookie Preferences
